The AT&T Byron Nelson Preview

Posted by Austin Chen on 15 May 2018

The PGA Tour travels to Dallas, Texas this week for The AT&T Byron Nelson. The event moves from the TPC Las Colinas Four Season to Trinity Forest Golf Club which literally has no trees on the course despite the name. The course will play as a par 71 and measures out to 7,380 yards. There are 88 bunkers but no water hazards. Many of the putting surfaces are what you call cereal bowl greens. The grass on the greens this week is Bermuda. Trinity Forest is built on top of what was once a landfill and plays like an American links course. The PGA is already watering all over the course so it will be interesting how it ends up playing this week. It is suppose to be played hard and fast and from the green back. The neat thing about this new course is that a lot of the holes can be played in multiple ways. If you stand by a green for an hour, you may see at least 5 different ways used by a player to get on the green.

Holes To Watch

The claim to fame on these two holes is the 35,000 square foot green which is the largest in North America.

This is a short and wide par 4 that brings risk and reward if you decide to try to drive it onto the green.

The highlight is the bunker in middle of the fairway and a blind 2nd shot.

Players To Watch

Hideki Matsuyama

This is a rare chance to see one of the top players in the world. This will only be the 2nd time Hideki will tee it up in Texas outside of the WGC Match Play events.

Brendan Grace

His game fits this type of course really well. A sleeper pick to win this week.

Maverick McNealy

The former #1 amateur gets into the field this week on a sponsor invite. Up and coming player to keep your eyes on.

Beau Hossler

Jordan Spieth is obviously the one to make all the headlines this week as he is a member of Trinity Forest. Don't sleep on Beau who is another UT alum. He also calls Trinity Forest his home course.
