                     Titleist GT Drivers

Titleist was the one that pioneered the world’s best golf balls, with perfectly consistent centers. It follows then, that this company should be one to strike the forefront of innovation in drivers, every year.

That they do, most recently in their lineup of Titleist GT drivers. But what’s the buzz about, and what do Titleist GT drivers offer? This guide should break that down.

Introducing the Titleist GT Driver Series

Titleist GT drivers, in which the GT stands for “Generational Technology,” plies the waters of innovation through the use of new materials, some of which have never been used before in golf driver construction, to create a dramatic shift in performance for players of varying skill levels.

As is often the case, the company’s engineers have placed an emphasis on speed in this endeavor, but with GT drivers, the value proposition - and the performance of these clubs - goes far beyond speed.

With Titleist GT drivers, there is a noticeable boost in speed, but in these unique new drivers it is also controlled, offering never-before-seen precision control over ball flight. This performance is attributable to a unique mix of factors.

Outwardly, the first thing you will notice about these all-new GT drivers is their “Seamless Thermoform Crown,” which has been made with a “Proprietary Matrix Polymer”; just what this material is, exactly, is as of the current time a trade secret, but suffice it to say it is light, strong, and consistent.

This ultra-lightweight material has enabled Titleist’s engineers to precisely place mass in optimal locations in each model, in order to deliver the desired results. It’s also thermoformed from crown to sole leaving no visible seam or apparent transition between materials, offering an impossibly clean, modern look that is as much aesthetically pleasing as it is geared towards performance.

The weight savings are serious; by utilizing this new proprietary polymer, Titleist has been able to engineer a clubhead that is as much as 3 times lighter than a comparable one would be if it were made of titanium alone.

This brings us to another secret of the Titleist GT line - “Split Mass Technology.” So-called split mass arises from weight savings using the aforementioned thermoform crown material. As a result, the weight of the club head can be readjusted both forward and back inside the clubhead.

This, in turn, enables these clubs to offer optimal distance dynamics, across speed, launch angle and spin, in order to generate the desired shot shape and ball flight carry distance.

Titleist GT drivers also offer exceptionally fast faces, which sport two unique aspects of technological innovation - a speed ring paired with VFT, or Variable Face Thickness.

The speed ring of the driver’s face creates a more stable club face perimeter, which concentrates maximum performance in the center of the face for on-center strikes. Variable Face Thickness, or VFT, results in a more forgiving club face that still generates respectable speed and energy transfer even with less-than-optimal contact.

Specifically, VFT thins the face out, creating a larger, more forgiving sweet spot that produces better results, even on mishits.

What you get is a face that is faster, more consistent, and curiously accommodating of off-center clubface contact. You get the best of both worlds. With on-center contacts, you get insane speed and carry distance; even with off-center strikes, you get decent carry distance undamaged by what might otherwise be unpredictable shot-to-shot variation.

The overall design of these clubs sports a much more aerodynamic shape as well. Both internal construction characteristics as well as advanced weight distribution result in a clubhead profile that slices through the air like a proverbial hot knife through butter.

Not only this, but refinements to crown and sole curvature together improve air flow connection while reducing drag and turbulence.

Together, these features result in a clubhead that’s easier to swing faster, for players of all swing speeds - which is one of the secrets to energy transfer, and thereby ball speed and carry distance.

This, paired with enhanced internal weight distribution, a lightweight design and improved club face engineered, result in a design that generates impressive performance and forgiveness.

One more thing: Titleist GT drivers are made with new face graphics which make it easier for golfers to visually frame and center the ball before taking the swing.

About the GT2, GT3, and GT4

Alright, by now you’ve probably had enough of product specifications and marketing and engineering buzzwords. Let’s talk specifics on the models. Currently, there are 3 distinct Titleist GT drivers: the GT2, GT3, and GT4. Here’s a snapshot of what each of them offers.

The Titleist GT2 is a high-launch, low-spin driver that delivers speed and forgiveness across the entire club face, making it ideal for players that don’t always find the sweet spot. The GT2 offers that forgiveness thanks to high-MOI stability paired with a design that increases speed.

The GT3 sports an adjustable CG track that offers adjustability and customizability, but it’s best for players with exact, consistent swings. If you fit the bill, the GT3 will deliver best in class carry distance and unprecedented control over direction and shot shape.

Last but not least we have the GT4, that’s ideal for players that lose distance as a result of high spin. This GT4 is Titleist’s most aggressive spin-reducing driver, period - it just might be the best on the market.
