The Fujikura Ventus TR: Re-Redefining Stability

               Fujikura Ventus

You’ve heard of the Fujikura Ventus. For the past several years, it has made waves among golfers (sort of like Autoflex golf shafts, but for different reasons) and is hailed as one of the highest-performing, exceptionally stable lines of shafts in the game.

But have you heard of the Fujikura Ventus TR? If not, it’s time to change that. Here’s what the TR line offers, how it differs from the original line, and why that matters.

How the Ventus TR Is Like the Original

                  Fujikura Ventus

Like the original Fujikura Ventus, the Ventus TR line is largely about stability. So much so that stability is their main pitch.

The Ventus TR line claims to “redefine stability…again,” (right from the Fujikura website, by the way).

The heart of the TR line, like the original line, is Fujikura’s VeloCore Technology. This is a multi-media bias core construction technique that delivers next-level stability through transition (and at impact) by maximizing clubhead MOI.

It consists of the use of full-length, extremely high-modulus Pitch 70 ton carbon fiber in the body matrix of the shaft, which improves strength and loading characteristics while minimizing ovaling and boosting stability.

This carbon fiber matrix is 110% stronger than T1100g carbon fiber, and Fujikura has added Pitch 40 ton carbon fiber to the matrix, which improves feel on top of improved stability.

Shafts made with VeloCore Technology (like the Fujikura Ventus and TR lines) are designed to promote unbelievable stability, encouraging consistent center-clubface contact, for greater carry distance with less shot dispersion.

While VeloCore Technology defines both the Fujikura Ventus and TR lines, that’s not all they have in common.

They are both also made with maximum carbon fiber content that improves strength, stability, and weight, and given a Phantium Finish, which is a lightweight, proprietary painting technique utilized by Fujikura that saves weight, allowing for optimal material placement and maximizing performance.

In addition, there are still three main profiles - the Ventus TR Red, Blue and Black - each of which offers unique performance. With that said, these profiles are slightly different in the TR line than they are in the original Ventus line, so see below for more details.

With all of this being said, how are the Fujikura Ventus TR shafts different, and why does it matter?

Where the Fujikura Ventus TR Differs

There are a few key areas in which the Ventus TR is updated and differs from the original Fujikura Ventus.

One of these main differences has to do with the use of Spread Tow Fabric, which is an upgrade to the VeloCore Technology (which it also utilizes).

The Fujikura Ventus TR’s Spread Tow Fabric is a unique latticework, a carbon fiber fabric matrix that encapsulates the fiber core, adding strength, stability, and improving a variety of other performance characteristics.

This Spread Tow Fabric effectively works in unison with the VeloCore Technology of Ventus TR shafts to add another layer of stability without compromising feel; if anything, it can even improve it.

In the Fujikura Ventus TR line, Fujikura has committed to utilizing ongoing enso analytics, which have overwhelmingly indicated that shafts experience an immense amount of stress through the midsection and butt/handle section at transition and through the downswing.

Identifying this through the use of enso analytics, the team at Fujikura has selectively utilized Spread Tow Fabric in the Ventus TR, specifically to improve torsional stiffness in these two sections of the shaft, adding strength, boosting stability, and reducing shaft ovalization that can compromise consistency from player to player, and even from swing to swing.

Like the Fujikura Ventus, the TR line is also available in three separate shaft profiles that promise different performance - but they vary between the two lines.

Still Three Lines Delivering Three Unique Shot Profiles

The Fujikura Ventus TR Red, like the original, produces a mid-high launch and mid-low spin characteristics, but unlike the original Red, it features an ultra-stiff handle, a stiff midsection and a stiff tip section.

With that said, the Ventus TR Red has the softest tip section in the lineup, allowing for a more active tip that delivers consistent spin and mid-high launch profiles without compromising either feel or stability. It is ideal for most players looking for a more active shaft, best suited to slower swing speeds and tempos.

The Fujikura Ventus TR Blue is in the middle ground. Like the original Ventus Blue, it produces mid-launch and low-spin characteristics, between the TR Red and Black. However, in the TR Blue, it is the tip section that is ultra-stiff, whereas the midsection and handle are just stiff.

The TR Blue is unique in the TR lineup because it features enhanced torsional stiffness along with an ultra-stiff tip that offers exceptional consistency. The TR Blue also offers enhancing loading, feel, and excellent stability at impact, making it uniquely able to handle more aggressive swing speeds and tempos while remaining stable and forgiving enough for players of a wide range of abilities and needs.

Last but certainly not least is the Fujikura Ventus TR Black line, which like the original is optimized for players with the most advanced, aggressive swings and play styles. The TR Black is designed with ultra-stiff tip and handle sections, with a stiff midsection sandwiched between them.

                         Fujikura Ventus

It is the stiffest Ventus profile at the present time, and produces the lowest launch and spin characteristics of the lineup. It is optimized for players with fast, tour-like swings, transitions, and tempos, producing feedback that delivers almost no feeling of flex through the swing, for excellent energy transfer and overall performance.

This high-level view should tell you just about everything you need to know about the golf shafts for drivers in the Fujikura Ventus TR line, with a little extra detail thrown in for good measure.

They are excellent golf shafts that deliver industry-leading stability and performance, even for players with fast swing speeds and aggressive tempos, but choosing one for your needs is not as easy as selecting an option from a template.
