Top Questions About Autoflex Golf Shafts, Answered in One Place

                     Autoflex golf shafts

You’ve probably heard about Autoflex golf shafts by now. They feature “Korea Hidden Technology,” (KHT), which promises to extend range and control shot dispersion (even for players of the fastest swing speeds and tempos), and fetch a hefty asking price.

The company hasn’t even divulged just what this “Korea Hidden Technology” is, in an effort to stop others from stealing the “secret sauce,” so to speak.

Naturally, with so much hype and so little information, you may be wondering what it’s all about.

So we took some of the most common questions and put them all in one place.

Question: Why are Autoflex golf shafts so expensive?

It’s no secret that Autoflex shafts are expensive. This has mostly to do with the fact that they feature some sort of technology (Autoflex won’t say what it is) that results in extremely thin, flexible walls and an overall lightweight design.

This, coupled with the hype, and probably with the expense of developing this technology, are the reasons for the high cost.

Question: Are Autoflex driver shafts worth it?

That depends. For some golfers, probably not. For instance, even though Autoflex shafts are rated to improve shot distance, dispersion, and shape, even for fast golfers, there might be other, better shafts that are heavier and less flexible, such as Fujikura Ventus Black shafts, that are better suited.

Question: Why are Autoflex golf shafts so special?

Once again, Autoflex refuses to divulge just what lies behind the proverbial and literal walls of their hidden technology. However, it may be some sort of lightweight carbon fiber matrix (we don’t know, though).

We do know the effects. Whatever this KHT is, it makes Autoflex golf shafts very flexible, with thin walls, and it also makes them very lightweight.

Question: How do I choose the right golf shafts for my drivers?

The best way to choose the right golf shafts for your drivers is to work with a golf club fitter.

Whether or not those shafts are Autoflex shafts is beside the point. Regardless of good marketing, the shaft that works best for you and the shaft you want are not always one and the same.

Working with a professional for golf club fitting services will entail taking your measurements and observing your swing dynamics, to ensure a shaft of the right length, weight, and flex properties is paired with you.

Working with a club fitter will also take into account what drivers you swing, as club head weight dynamics and balance will also influence which shafts make a good choice and which do not.

Question: Are Autoflex shafts good for beginners?

They can be. They are designed to be on average 20 to 30 grams lighter than conventional shafts, which decreases strain, and are also optimized for consistency and flexibility. These shafts automatically optimize energy transfer for optimal range, regardless of swing speed, and they’re optimized for balance and stability as well.

Taken in sum, these traits, which make Autoflex shafts very flexible and lightweight, make them excellent options for most golfers with lower swing speeds and tempos, even beginners.

Question: Are Autoflex shafts good for seniors?

The same traits that make Autoflex golf shaft potentially suitable for beginners also make them desirable for senior golfers. If you or someone you know is aging and has experienced a loss of swing speed and tempo, Autoflex golf shafts may be able to put a little smash factor back in their swing.

Question: What about for players with fast swing speeds and tempos?

Surprisingly, most golfers that have played with Autoflex shafts report that they are also suitable for players with high swing speeds - even those with swing speeds close to 110 MPH. Some did report that the shafts feel very whippy, but that even when swung hard and fast, the clubhead still “caught up” before reaching the tee.

Question: How do Autoflex shafts increase distance and accuracy?

Lighter in swing weight and thinner than conventional golf shafts for drivers, Autoflex golf shafts combine flexibility and stability (a surprising combination of attributes) to extend carry distance (and control shot dispersion) by boosting clubhead speed without requiring any additional input of effort from the golfer - even for players with average swing speeds.

Question: Are they too flexible?

Some golfers have remarked that Autoflex shafts do feel very light and whippy. They remain suitable for players with strong, fast swing speeds, but Autoflex also cautions that players with high swing speeds and tempos should not try to swing the lower spec models (like the sf305x or sf405 models) too hard, or the shaft may crack.

Ultimately, if you work with a fitter and pick an Autoflex shaft that’s suitable for your swing speed and abilities, it shouldn’t be a problem.
