Every two years Bob Vokey and the engineers at Titleist crank out what many of the best pros and amateurs consider as the best wedges on the planet. The Vokey SM8 wedges have already been in the winning bag of 6 PGA Tour winners this calendar current year. The SM8 wedges retail for $159.99 each. The SM8 lineup replaces the extraordinarily successful SM7 lineup that has been around since 2018. Vokey wedges are one of the best sellers at Dallas Golf but we get a lot of questions from our customers. Most of those questions have to do with the different Vokey SM8 grind options. We wanted to take this opportunity to compare the grinds so you can be sure which wedge is best suited to your game!  Keep in mind that every loft option for all 6 grinds is available in both right handed and left handed. Pick between the classic Tour Chrome, the popular Brushed Steel, and the tour preferred Jet Black finishes.

Vokey SM8 M Grind

The M Grind Vokey SM8 is Bob Vokey's favorite and considered a multi-purpose wedge grind. It is designed for players that like to rotate the club face open and closed to manufacture shots around the green. Ideal for players with a shallower, more sweeping swing type who play shots from a variety of clubface positions. If you're looking for versatility, the M Grind is for you. Available in 56, 58, 60, and 62 degree loft options.

Vokey SM8 F Grind

The F Grind Vokey SM8 is an all-purpose grind that is particularly suited for full shots and shots hit with a square face. Ideal for players who prefer a traditional wedge sole. The F grind is the most played wedge on Tour including Justin Thomas. It's well suited to any turf condition or swing type. The F grind comes in 8 different loft/bounce options  ranging from 46 degrees up to 56 degrees.

Vokey SM8 S Grind

The S Grind Vokey SM8 is the popular middle-of-the-road option in the current Titleist wedge lineup. The S Grind is geared towards golfers that will strike wedge shots with a square club face. The S Grind features a full sole that has been narrowed by a trailing edge grind, giving it a faster feel through the turf. The S Grind is best for neutral to firm conditions and for players that like to control loft with their hands ahead or behind the ball. This grind is played most notably by Jordan Spieth and Adam Scott. The S Grind is available in 54, 56, 58, and 60 degree options which are all with 10 degrees of bounce.

Vokey SM8 D Grind

The D Grind Vokey SM8 is the player's high bounce grind. The D grind blends versatility from a heel, toe, and trailing edge grind and forgiveness with its high measured bounce. The D Grind is ideal for players with a steeper angle of attack who play shots from a variety of clubface positions. The D Grind is the right choice for better players often on courses with softer turf. The D Grind comes in 54, 56, 58 and 60 degree options.

Vokey SM8 K Grind

The K Grind Vokey SM8 is the highest bounce option in the Titleist wedge lineup. This grind is the ultimate bunker club. The K Grind is a wide, full sole wedge with enhanced camber to make it forgiving from a variety of sand and turf conditions. It offers the most forgiveness of any of the grinds thanks to the high CG which increases MOI as you can see in the photo below. The K Grind is great for a mid to high handicap golfer but plenty of pros play the K grind like Justin Thomas, Adam Scott and Webb Simpson to name a few. Available with 58 or 60 degrees of loft with 14 degrees of bounce.

Vokey SM8 L Grind

The L Grind is the lowest bounce grind option in the mix. The heel, toe, and trailing edge relief allow for maximum greenside versatility. The L Grind is perfect for firm conditions and designed for precise players. It is ideal for players that have complete control of impact looking for maximum shot-making versatility. The L Grind is currently played by Jordan Spieth and Jimmy Walker. Available in only in a 60 degrees loft with just 4 degrees of loft.

What Else To Know About SM8

The biggest leap forward in terms of technology for the  SM8 wedge lineup is the center of gravity has been pushed forward which produces higher MOI (moment of inertia). For golfers, this means improved feel and a club face that simply wants to square at impact. Additonally, Micro-grooves are individually cut in between grooves, which maximize spin on partial shots. A proprietary heat treatment is applied to the impact area which doubles the durability of the groove without impacting feel making it the most durable groove in golf. The process is only complete when every groove on every wedge head is 100% inspected for conformity to the rules of golf.
